Chapter 5: Dreams and Danger

AUTHOR: ABRAR NAYEEM CHOWDHURY

Shagor’s heart raced as he and Sohana made their way down the narrow staircase, the echoes of their hurried footsteps reverberating through the old mansion. The explosion outside had left them with little time to think, and the storm still raged on, adding to the chaos. He could hear the rain pelting against the windows, the low rumble of thunder in the distance, but none of it compared to the panic that gripped him now.

As they reached the middle of the staircase, Shagor slowed for a moment, looking over his shoulder to make sure Sohana was right behind him. But when he turned, he realized with a jolt of confusion—*she wasn’t there.

His heart sank. “Sohana?” he called out, his voice barely audible over the sound of the storm. He spun around, his eyes scanning the dark hallway above, but there was no sign of her.

“Damn it,” he muttered under his breath, his pulse quickening with both worries and frustration. Where had she gone?

Before he could figure out what to do next, the creaking of heavy boots echoed from the stairwell below. Shagor’s breath hitched, his instincts kicking in as he realized what was happening. Alexander’s goons. They were already here.

Shagor’s muscles tensed as he looked down the stairs, spotting the shadowy figures of several armed men making their way up toward him. Their faces were grim, their movements deliberate.

Without warning, one of the goons swung a metal baton, striking Shagor across the shoulder with a bone-jarring force. The pain exploded through him, making him stumble back, his vision blurring momentarily.

“Get him!” one of the men shouted.

Shagor gritted his teeth, ignoring the throbbing in his shoulder as he regained his footing. He dodged the next strike and delivered a sharp punch to the nearest goon’s gut, sending him crashing down the stairs. But there were too many of them, and they were closing in fast.

Another man grabbed him from behind, pinning his arms as the others moved in to finish the job. Shagor struggled, his mind racing. He needed to fight back, to get out of here, but where was Sohana? Why had she disappeared?

“Where is she?” Shagor growled, his voice strained as he fought against the grip of the man holding him.

The goon grinned wickedly. “Doesn’t matter. You’re coming with us.”

Shagor’s heart pounded as they dragged him down the stairs, but his thoughts kept drifting back to Sohana. -Where the hell did you go?

On the other side of the city, Nafisa sat alone by the window in her small apartment. The rain outside mirrored the turbulent emotions she felt inside. Ever since she had left Hasib’s home earlier that day, her mind had been consumed by thoughts of him—his smile, the way he looked at her, the way he had held her hand when he was in pain. Every little moment replayed in her mind like a beautiful, bittersweet memory.

The storm outside had darkened the sky, but Nafisa’s heart was filled with warmth. She couldn’t stop thinking about Hasib. It had only been a few hours since she’d left his side, but she already missed him terribly. Her mind kept drifting back to the tender moments they had shared over the past few days.

She closed her eyes and leaned her head against the windowpane, feeling the cool glass against her skin. Her thoughts floated back to the way Hasib had looked at her when they first reunited after his injury—the gratitude in his eyes, the way his lips had curled into a soft smile despite the pain he was in.

A smile played on Nafisa’s lips as she remembered how he had called her “his angel,” how he had reached for her hand in the quiet moments when no words were needed, just the comfort of being together.

*He’s everything I’ve ever wanted.*

The realization hit her with such clarity that it almost took her breath away. She loved him—deeply, madly, with every fiber of her being. And she knew, without a doubt, that Hasib was the man she wanted to spend her life with.

As the rain continued to pour outside, Nafisa’s thoughts carried her away to the sweetest memories of the past few days—of cooking meals for Hasib, helping him with his bandages, and watching him laugh with Tommy by his side. She felt a deep sense of joy and peace knowing that she had been there for him when he needed her most.

Later, as the evening wore on, Nafisa lay down on her bed, her body sinking into the soft sheets. She pulled the blanket around her, her mind still swirling with thoughts of Hasib. The storm outside had quieted a bit, and the gentle patter of rain against the window lulled her into a peaceful slumber.

In her dream, Nafisa stood in the middle of a grand, beautifully decorated wedding hall. The room was filled with family and friends, their faces glowing with happiness and love. Bright marigold flowers adorned the walls, and fairy lights twinkled above like stars. It was the perfect scene, a celebration of love and union.

Nafisa felt her heart swell with excitement as she looked down at herself. She was dressed in an exquisite red and gold wedding saree, the intricate embroidery catching the light as she moved. Her hands were adorned with delicate henna patterns, and her heart raced with the knowledge that this was her wedding day—her wedding with Hasib.

She glanced toward the far end of the hall, where Hasib stood, looking impossibly handsome in a traditional sherwani. His eyes were locked on hers, filled with so much love and adoration that it made her heart skip a beat. He smiled, and it was the kind of smile that melted every worry, every fear away. This was their moment, and nothing could take it from them.

As she walked toward him, the guests parted, clapping and cheering softly. Nafisa’s steps were slow, graceful, each one bringing her closer to the man she loved.

When she finally reached Hasib, he took her hands in his, his touch sending a wave of warmth through her. His voice was soft, filled with emotion as he spoke.

“You look beautiful,” he whispered, his eyes shining with admiration.

Nafisa’s heart fluttered. “So do you.”

They stood together under the canopy, the priest’s voice echoing softly around them as the sacred rituals began. But Nafisa wasn’t paying attention to the words; her entire focus was on Hasib. On the way, he looked at her, as if she were the most precious thing in the world.

Time seemed to slow down as they exchanged vows, promising to love and cherish each other for the rest of their lives. Nafisa could feel the love radiating from Hasib, and it filled her with a sense of peace and happiness unlike anything she had ever known.

And then, the moment she had been waiting for—Hasib leaned in, his hands gently cupping her face, and kissed her softly on the lips. It was a kiss filled with love, with promise, with forever.

Nafisa’s heart soared, and the cheers of the guests around them faded into the background. All that mattered was Hasib and the life they were about to start together.

When Nafisa woke up, the first rays of dawn were just beginning to peek through the curtains. She blinked, disoriented for a moment, her heart still racing from the vivid dream.

She sat up slowly, her mind still filled with the images of the wedding, the feeling of Hasib’s hands in hers, the softness of his kiss. It had felt so real, so incredibly perfect, that for a brief moment, she had believed it was.

But as she looked around her quiet room, reality settled in. It had all been a dream.

A bittersweet smile tugged at the corners of her lips. She closed her eyes and whispered a soft prayer.

“Please, God… let that dream come true. Let me be with him. Let me marry him.”

Tears of happiness welled up in her eyes, and Nafisa let out a deep breath, her heart filled with hope. She knew, deep down, that her love for Hasib was pure and that they were meant to be together.

She could only pray that someday soon, her dream would become a reality.
